BOWLING BLIND
(USA, 2009) Director: Marc Cantone
Documentary, English, 35 minutes
World Premiere
SYNOPSIS
The members of New York City's blind bowling leagues don't just love to bowl; they live to bowl. Refusing to be limited by their handicaps, this group of low-income, minority bowlers compete against each other--and themselves--for 32 weeks a year in an all out push towards the national tournament that caps off every season. "Bowling Blind" chronicles the struggles, triumphs and misadventures of the Metropolitan Blind Bowlers on their journey to the National Blind Bowling Tournament.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
"Over the course of making this film, we have become friends with the bowlers and champions of their cause. Some of our characters have trouble making a living due to their disability. Others yearn for the days when their vision was stronger. Despite this, the bowlers are upbeat and positive. Through the simple act of bowling, they maintain a sense of pride and normalcy. We hope this film not only inspires and entertains but also conveys an appreciation for the indelible spirit of these bowlers."
